Cricket Australia sign contract with Sportradar
Sportradar is pleased to announce Cricket Australia as its latest integrity partner. Under this agreement, Sportradar will monitor Cricket Australia’s Ryobi Cup, BUPA Sheffield Shield and KFC Big Bash T20 League domestic competitions for signs of betting-related corruption and fraudulent activity.
Since 2004, Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System (FDS) has successfully monitored a range of sports and has unrivalled experience and expertise in the identification of suspicious betting practices across the world. The recent soccer match-fixing investigation in Australia perfectly highlights the benefits of Sportradar’s extensive skills, technology and knowledge in this field; not only did it detect suspected manipulated matches bit its unique systems and databases were used to warn the authorities in advance of individuals of interest registering to play in their leagues.
This case, along with other recent issues in sports around the world, reflects the true global threat posed by match-fixing in the 21st century. Those responsible are employing ever more diverse methods and targeting previously unaffected sports in a bid to maximise illicit betting profits. Cricket Australia has installed an integrity program of the highest standard and the relationship with Sportradar will be a vital step in safeguarding the integrity of Australian cricket in the future.
Sportradar CEO, Carsten Koerl said, “It’s critical in today’s world that sports governing bodies confront the threat of betting related match-fixing and have robust preventative, detection and investigation methods in-place. Cricket Australia is doing just that and Sportradar is delighted to be partnering with them to help protect their competitions against the threat posed from match-fixers”.
Cricket Australia CEO, James Sutherland said, “Cricket Australia takes the threat of betting related match-fixing very seriously and this partnership with Sportradar is the latest step taken to help uphold the integrity of cricket in Australia. We look forward to utilising Sportradar’s proven expertise in this field and forging an effective partnership”.
